At CPH, church workers play a vital part in fulfil At CPH, church workers play a vital part in fulfilling our mission to create products and services that are faithful to the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.

"Serving at CPH is such a joy and honor. I am thankful for the opportunity to daily connect churches and church workers with faithful, Christ-centered resources. My work at CPH gives me new insights that I can share with my local church and my service in the parish helps strengthen my daily work at CPH. It is such a blessing to be placed in this unique setting where I can interact with so many faithful Christians."

The church workers at Concordia Publishing House s The church workers at Concordia Publishing House serve in exceptional ways in each of their roles. Some have even spent the majority of their career helping CPH to provide products and services that aid and strengthen the church in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“As I look back at the past 50 years of my life, I now can see how God prepared me for the exact role of serving as the general editor of the Concordia Commentary series. In my work here, I rely every day on the education I received and my time as a parish pastor to be able to edit Bible commentaries that will serve the needs of our parish pastors as well as our professors and students. I humbly ask God to send the Holy Spirit, who works through His Word, to enable me and everyone else at CPH to contribute in this way to the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for the eternal salvation of all baptized believers.”

O God, the protector of all who trust in You, have O God, the protector of all who trust in You, have mercy on us that with You as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
"Creation is bathed in light and darkness, subject "Creation is bathed in light and darkness, subject to chaos and order. But in all things, God calls, equips, creates, and makes things well. The culmination of His divine care is Jesus—the One whose Word unleashes pure Gospel, unmasks pharisaical deception, acknowledges secular authority, and yet infuses into mankind unrelenting hope, steadfast faith, and incredible mercy. Believers cling to these God-given things in the midst of all wrath and affliction, confident in salvation through Christ alone." —Worship Planning Book, Year A
The church workers on the CPH team bring a unique The church workers on the CPH team bring a unique perspective to each of their roles.

"Among the many Christians we support at CPH, an important part of that group are church workers. I am a child, spouse, and mother of trained LCMS church workers, and I'm one myself. It's hard to put into words the unique experiences, needs, and perspectives that come with church-work life, so I'm glad that I'm able to bring those considerations into my daily work. It is my hope that through our work at CPH, church workers feel seen, appreciated, and well served."

"But what does the Son do? He acts as a poor, need "But what does the Son do? He acts as a poor, needy sinner and submits to being baptized by John at the Jordan, so that the whole Godhead here manifests itself in the most gracious and friendliest manner, according to the distinction of the persons, in three forms, so that everyone may know that when you cling to the Lord Christ and receive His Word and take comfort in His work, you are pleasing to God. For it says here that whatever He commands, says, or does, it is all the Father’s heartfelt desire." —Martin Luther

CPH is celebrating the church workers on our team CPH is celebrating the church workers on our team throughout October. Church workers at CPH are committed to staying connected to their congregations and other Lutheran communities so they can help prepare resources faithful to Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, using their experiences from the Concordia universities and seminaries.

“You’ll find the heart of the church worker at CPH. They love the Gospel and deeply want to help people know and share it. They also deeply love The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and its churches and schools. They stay connected so they can listen to what their colleagues with ‘boots on the ground’ are working through, enabling them to help equip those colleagues and others to face it. It’s very often our church workers who remind us all that we’re not doing this alone, and we’re not doing it for ourselves.”

"God actually holds all authority over everything "God actually holds all authority over everything (“the things that are God’s,” 22:21). But God allows others to carry out some functions of that authority, establishing lesser authorities under Himself (see Rom 13:1). . . .

In this way,

The Lord, Who Is Always Our Keeper, Protector, and Ruler, Does Some of His Keeping through Other Authorities He Anoints.

Always for our good!

Final thought: never does God delegate to anyone the authority to establish what we are to believe or what’s truly right or wrong (“things eternal”). He always keeps that for Himself. Thus if any “authority” (yup, scare quotes) commands us to sin or believe in anything other than Jesus Christ, our Savior, on that subject it is no authority (even if it still has God’s authority to collect taxes). In such cases, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). That’s the limit." —Dr. Carl Fickenscher, Looking Forward to Sunday Morning, devotion for the Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost

During Church Worker Appreciation Month, we are re During Church Worker Appreciation Month, we are recognizing all the remarkable ways church workers strengthen our mission at CPH and give us valuable insight into what our customers are looking for.

“Our customers may not realize that many of us served in congregations before coming to CPH. In my case, I served three congregations over a period of sixteen years before coming to work here. Personally, I serve my congregation as a volunteer with our youth ministry program, and I also serve on the board of directors and as a volunteer at Metro East Lutheran High School. As volunteers, we stay in touch with the needs of the congregations and schools CPH serves.”

"The Lord prepares a feast of divine nourishment f "The Lord prepares a feast of divine nourishment for His people and cloaks us with His righteousness. As recipients of His wealth of grace and mercy, we ought to rejoice with unrelenting gladness. Yet there are times when even the chosen, the elect, the invited discount the very invitation and refuse to heed His Word of indisputable truth. Rejection of Jesus brings condemnation and wrath. But nourishment in His Word and Sacrament begets life and forgiveness." —Worship Planning Book, Year A
In 1537, Martin Luther penned what many consider h In 1537, Martin Luther penned what many consider his most passionate theological statement: the Smalcald Articles. Written as talking points for a church council that never truly welcomed him, these Articles became something far greater—a bold, uncompromising declaration of the Christian faith's most essential truths.

Author and historical expert Robert Kolb brings this "forgotten confession" to life, vividly guiding you through Luther's teachings on justification, repentance, the Means of Grace, and the nature of the church.
October is Church Worker Appreciation Month, and m October is Church Worker Appreciation Month, and many of our team members at CPH use their firsthand vocational experience as pastors, teachers, deaconesses, and DCEs to guide their work editing, producing, and sharing Christ-centered resources.

“Over the course of my parish ministry, I had the opportunity to do a lot of writing, but that opportunity expanded greatly when I left the parish ministry and did advanced studies at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. In the eight years I was called to Lutheran Hour Ministries and now the ten years at Concordia Publishing House, I have been able to bring together my seminary training and my experiences as a parish pastor and confirmation class teacher to help enhance and sharpen the writing of pastors, commissioned church workers, seminary and university professors, and lay authors in many books, devotionals, Bible studies, and church resources. I thank my church worker training and experience for equipping me to help authors more clearly present the salvation in Jesus Christ to countless readers, as together we share God’s salvation throughout the church and the world in a clear and winsome way.”
