Three decades of work and dedication have led to the publication of Confessing the Gospel: A Lutheran Approach to Systematic Theology. This landmark release is the first Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod dogmatics book published in over a century.

Confessing the Gospel: A Lutheran Approach to Systematic Theology seeks to demonstrate this Lutheran approach to confessing the gospel not only with respect to its content, but also with respect to the method of its presentation”, says Dr. Samuel H. Nafzger, the book’s editor, in the preface.

“Each chapter of this Dogmatics begins with a presentation of what the Bible has to say about the topic under discussion, followed by a review of what the ecumenical creeds and the historic confessions of the Lutheran church teach about this topic,” says Nafzger. These core building blocks are:

  1. Scriptural Foundation
  2. Confessional Witness
  3. Systematic Formulation
  4. Historical and Contemporary Developments
  5. Implications for life and ministry

More than 70 theologians from the LCMS and its partner churches from around the world were invited to participate in this project, and almost all agreed to serve as contributors.

Confessing the Gospel is available in both Kindle and iBook formats, a LOGOS format is forthcoming.
