During Church Worker Appreciation Month, we are re During Church Worker Appreciation Month, we are recognizing all the remarkable ways church workers strengthen our mission at CPH and give us valuable insight into what our customers are looking for.

“Our customers may not realize that many of us served in congregations before coming to CPH. In my case, I served three congregations over a period of sixteen years before coming to work here. Personally, I serve my congregation as a volunteer with our youth ministry program, and I also serve on the board of directors and as a volunteer at Metro East Lutheran High School. As volunteers, we stay in touch with the needs of the congregations and schools CPH serves.”

Discover what the Bible teaches about prayer and h Discover what the Bible teaches about prayer and how you can bring anything—including the entire range of your emotions—to the Father in prayer in this new article by Rev. "The Lord prepares a feast of divine nourishment f "The Lord prepares a feast of divine nourishment for His people and cloaks us with His righteousness. As recipients of His wealth of grace and mercy, we ought to rejoice with unrelenting gladness. Yet there are times when even the chosen, the elect, the invited discount the very invitation and refuse to heed His Word of indisputable truth. Rejection of Jesus brings condemnation and wrath. But nourishment in His Word and Sacrament begets life and forgiveness." —Worship Planning Book, Year A
In 1537, Martin Luther penned what many consider h In 1537, Martin Luther penned what many consider his most passionate theological statement: the Smalcald Articles. Written as talking points for a church council that never truly welcomed him, these Articles became something far greater—a bold, uncompromising declaration of the Christian faith's most essential truths.

Author and historical expert Robert Kolb brings this "forgotten confession" to life, vividly guiding you through Luther's teachings on justification, repentance, the Means of Grace, and the nature of the church.
October is Church Worker Appreciation Month, and m October is Church Worker Appreciation Month, and many of our team members at CPH use their firsthand vocational experience as pastors, teachers, deaconesses, and DCEs to guide their work editing, producing, and sharing Christ-centered resources.

“Over the course of my parish ministry, I had the opportunity to do a lot of writing, but that opportunity expanded greatly when I left the parish ministry and did advanced studies at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. In the eight years I was called to Lutheran Hour Ministries and now the ten years at Concordia Publishing House, I have been able to bring together my seminary training and my experiences as a parish pastor and confirmation class teacher to help enhance and sharpen the writing of pastors, commissioned church workers, seminary and university professors, and lay authors in many books, devotionals, Bible studies, and church resources. I thank my church worker training and experience for equipping me to help authors more clearly present the salvation in Jesus Christ to countless readers, as together we share God’s salvation throughout the church and the world in a clear and winsome way.”

Being a Lutheran school teacher is a vocation fill Being a Lutheran school teacher is a vocation filled with joy and rewards. In a new post, @LCMS Northern Illinois District Education Executive Lois Stewart shares five things to know if you are considering a career in Lutheran education. Read them on our blog.
“Focusing on the divine aspect of the Divine Servi “Focusing on the divine aspect of the Divine Service prompts us to begin with Scripture, even to go back to the very beginning. God’s original purpose for mankind was revealed in Eden: to walk and talk with God and to draw life from eating the food He provided through the tree of life (Genesis 2:9, 3:8a, 22). This was the first worship, the first ‘Divine Service,’ for by their heeding His command and accepting His gifts, God was most pleased.” —Thomas M. Winger, A Historical Introduction to the Divine Service
"God sees us, which means God knows us. In our wor "God sees us, which means God knows us. In our world, so often our relationships have distance that prevents true knowing. Perhaps it is the distance of miles or technology. Perhaps it is the distance of shame and an unwillingness to risk being rejected. All sorts of issues prevent us from sharing who we truly are with other people and being truly known.

But God already knows you. God knows every curve to your smile and the saline content of your tears. God knows the trauma you’ve buried so deep down that you’ve hidden its full weight from even yourself. God knows the brilliance of your beautiful soul. God knows the stupidest moments of your life past, present, and future. God knows. God sees. And God loves you. God sees you, and there is nothing, no matter how insidious or embarrassing, that can prevent God from continuing to love you." —Andrew R. Jones, Ten Treasures of Learning to Pray
Curriculum and children’s resources are an importa Curriculum and children’s resources are an important part of what we do at CPH. The valuable experience that church workers, particularly those who have been called to teach, bring to CPH helps us ensure our resources are both Christ-centered and intentional in aiding Lutheran educators to share the Gospel in their classrooms.

“I came to CPH with 25 years of experience in education. Most of my years were spent in Lutheran day schools where we used many CPH products including My Devotions, Arch Books, and religion curriculum. My hands-on use of CPH products allows me to help customers find the products that fit their unique needs. Being in the Editorial department means I can use my Lutheran teaching degree to help format many of the periodicals that CPH creates.”
In our culture, we’re often encouraged to look wit In our culture, we’re often encouraged to look within ourselves for purpose and identity. Yet many find that the more they turn inward, the more restless or uncertain they feel—not simply because something has gone wrong but because they were made to receive life from beyond themselves.

In Lift Your Eyes, Joshua Pfeiffer gently invites a different way: lifting your gaze beyond yourself—upward to God in faith, outward to your neighbors in love, and forward in hope rooted in Christ’s promises.
"People don’t usually say, “You just have to have "People don’t usually say, “You just have to have enough faith” because they want to put a guilt trip on someone who is suffering. People say it because they want to encourage others in their suffering, and there is some truth to it. They can and should trust God in these circumstances. But if you want to encourage someone in their suffering, it would be much better to talk not about what they should be doing but about Jesus and what He can do. The Scriptures emphasize faith not to pressure us to try harder but to point us to God and His trustworthiness. Your faith is only as strong as the one in whom you put your trust, and God is the one who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that do not exist. And in Jesus Christ, God has promised us His unending faithfulness." —Rev. Dr. Joel P. Meyer

In Soundbite Theology, Meyer examines the phrases we reach for in crisis and untangles the ones that quietly put the pressure back on you.
October is Church Worker Appreciation Month! Our t October is Church Worker Appreciation Month! Our team at Concordia Publishing House is made up of all kinds of people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including church workers. The church workers on staff bring a special perspective to our mission.

“My own experience in the parish and my continued involvement in my own church's ministry help keep me, as well as my team, grounded in the reason we build the applications we do and create software that aims to be faithful, like Aaron and Hur holding up the prophet's hands. Church workers should be empowered to get on with the work to which they've been called—proclaiming the Gospel of Christ—rather than sitting in front of a computer screen all day.”
