New confirmation curriculum based on Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation, 2017 Edition to be released
Catechesis is part of a lifelong journey of faith, where people learn to place their identity in God. With the release of a new confirmation curriculum, Concordia Publishing House is providing the tools for congregations to equip the next generation to boldly and confidently live out their faith.
In the same way that school curriculum has evolved over the years, it is important that curriculum for teaching the faith also is updated. Editor Rev. Pete Jurchen describes this need for a new approach best saying, “We never stop learning. Though God’s Word remains the same, there are a variety of ways we understand the timeless truths of God’s Word.”
The new confirmation curriculum is based on Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation, 2017 Edition. Designed to be adaptable to the needs of individual congregations, the curriculum provides options for a 30- or 60-week course.
Three notable changes to the curriculum include new teacher and student booklets, a variety of multimedia resources, as well as online extras designed to extend learning into the home.
- The teacher and student workbooks are designed for today’s students. They contain insightful graphics to capture attention and focus on reading, reflection, and discussion.
- Multimedia resources enable confirmation students and their parents to prepare for the topic before class and reflect on what they learned afterward.
- Online extras available to supplement the lessons, provide additional activities, and inspire topics for discussion.
Timeless Truth: An Essential Guide to Teaching the Faith, available as a free ebook, gives an overview of the importance of confirmation and how to teach faith-laying groundwork through the new curriculum.
