When you hear “Judgment Day,” what comes to mind? When you hear “Judgment Day,” what comes to mind? For many, it’s fear, uncertainty, or even dread. But what if those images don’t reflect what Scripture actually teaches?

O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your bel O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your beloved Son You confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the testimony of Moses and Elijah. In the voice that came from the bright cloud You wonderfully foreshowed our adoption by grace. Mercifully make us co-heirs with the King in His glory and bring us to the fullness of our inheritance in heaven; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

"To know God intellectually, merely to exercise a "To know God intellectually, merely to exercise a fasting ritual without faith, can be devoid of purpose. But through the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of God is made known to us in our hearts and minds. Then acts of mercy for those enmeshed in poverty, wickedness, and hunger season the world with God’s graciousness and righteousness. In these moments, God’s favor is made known, light shines, good works are done, and God alone is glorified." —Worship Planning Book, Year A

In Bryan Wolfmueller’s latest book, he unpacks thr In Bryan Wolfmueller’s latest book, he unpacks three ways in which the devil tempts us to turn inward—wanton deeds, despair, and self-satisfied pride—as well as three ways in which Jesus frees us from these slaveries through His finished work at the cross.
"In the clauses of 6:8, the prophet unfolds the tr "In the clauses of 6:8, the prophet unfolds the truth about the life of faith in Yahweh. He speaks first of performing justice, an action without any inner qualification. It might appear that the mere completion of the deed apart from faith and love toward God is what God requires. But the prophet further unfolds this teaching of the God-pleasing life by saying that what God wants is for man to love kindness/mercy. With this clause, “to love kindness/mercy,” the prophet shows that God desires more than an external action; rather, he also wants the inward affection of the heart (cf. Mt 5:28; Rom 7:14). This is to be shown in the actions of carrying out justice. To love mercy is to realize that one has received mercy in abundance from God, but also to find great joy in sharing that mercy with others: to love one’s neighbor (Lev 19:18; Mt 22:39). Finally, the prophet unveils the essential component of the God-pleasing life, reliance upon God. Without faith, it is impossible to please God, to do the works that please him (Rom 14:23; Heb 11:6). The horizontal dimension of the biblical faith is already hinted at when the prophet speaks of loving mercy, but with the last expression, “to walk attentively with your God,” the vertical dimension of the God-pleasing life is in view." —Dr. Jason Soenksen, writing on Micah 6:8 in Micah—Concordia Commentary
"While the wisdom of this world promotes prosperit "While the wisdom of this world promotes prosperity, Jesus teaches humility. Those characteristics that the world might look down on, God calls blessed. While we might be persecuted for these things, God reminds us that our reward is in heaven. For what may seem wise to the world is truly foolish, and what seems foolish to the world— Christ crucified—is wise. Just as He redeemed the Israelites and calls them His own people, so also has He rescued us from our sin." —Worship Planning Book, Year A

"Lacking a sense of community has certainly reduce "Lacking a sense of community has certainly reduced our ability to pass down biblical family morals to the next generations. Mothers and fathers have all too often been left alone to fight against the flow our youth and young adults meet in media, classes, and locker rooms. This flow is too strong for a young individual, if not for grown-ups as well. To fight it, we need a community. We meet problems everywhere when Christian children miss contact with other Christian families, and when Christian teens do not know other teens who read the Bible." —Erkki Koskenniemi

In his new book, Love, Marriage, and Family: Learning from the Early Christians, Erkki Koskenniemi encourages Christians to live uprightly, honoring the wonderful gifts of love, marriage, and family our loving and forgiving Creator has given us—just as the first Christians sought to do.
